Teaming up with Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany, the duo ousted Bob Bryan and Samantha Stosur, 0-6, 7-5 and 6-3 yesterday.

The team was faced with a must-win situation after losing a 13-point lead in the final minutes to Jamaica on Wednesday.

From top to bottom the potential is encouraging. Presently, the pacesetters are seniors Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, Alana Dillette, Vereance Burrows, and sisters Teisha and Alicia Lightbourne. They make up the national squad that will represent The Commonwealth of The Bahamas during the Federation Internationale de Natation Aquatics (FINA) World Championships, from July 18 - August 2 in Rome.

The Bajans executed a frantic rally late in the game, but missed a shot at the end of regulation which would have forced overtime. As a result, The Bahamas came out on top, 75-73, in their opening game of the 20th Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Senior Men Basketball Championships in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI).

    Bahamian standout offered D-I scholarships

    By SPORTS WRITER ~ For the Guardian: When Mikhail Mclean left The Bahamas with his family to reside in Houston, Texas, his dream was to obtain a basketball scholarship so that he could get a free college degree. That dream is already coming to fruition, as the 6' 7", 215 lbs. small forward was recently offered a full basketball scholarship in a major NCAA Division I program. Rutgers University was the latest school which came knocking on the door of the young Bahamian standout.

The Bahamas is considered one of the touted Caribbean countries in the sport. The BRU is the base that has spawned players recruited to play overseas. It has an independent and proactive perspective and could well be the least bothersome of the disciplines the Ministry of Sports has to deal with.

This is very much in step with the level of sophistication in monitoring athletes, being subscribed to by most nations where the sporting industry is a dominant factor. For The Bahamas, an anti-doping commission, if set up and operated properly, would result in full respectability.

    Barracudas win another RBC Nationals
