Golfers will gather on the greens at 8:00 a.m. at the Cable Beach Golf Course on June 27 to make their contribution toward the development of junior golf and the Bahamas Diabetic Association. They will be joining participants taking part in the Bishop Ian K. Brathwaite Golf Tournament, now in its third year.
"We are very excited about this our third tournament," said Bishop Brathwaite, who has become affectionately known as the golfing pastor. "This year, we've got several major sponsors on board and already have persons calling in from Canada and North America who will be in The Bahamas during that time to make sure they are able to participate in the event."
During a recent press conference, representatives of the Cable Beach Golf Course, Climax Energy Drink and Controversy TV all met with Bishop Brathwaite as a show of support for his tournament which they all agree supports to very worthy causes.
"Those of you who know me know that this tournament is played in honor of my mother Bloneva Brathwaite who lost her battle with diabetes some years ago," said Bishop Brathwaite. "Right now, we are seeing hard times hit us but those persons who rely on treatment and medication find themselves in desperate need of assistance now more than ever. As for the junior golfers, I'm proud to note that last year's tournament was won by former junior golfers. I am focused on helping them achieve scholarships at prestigious universities through this sport."
The tournament format will be a two-man scramble. Prizes will be awarded to first gross, first, second and third net, closest to the pin and the longest drive. Interested persons can call (242) 448-7002, 328-6119 or e-mail koralb3@yahoo.com.
