The Bahamas Baseball Federation (BBF) recently released the names of the young men who will represent The Bahamas at the 2009 Latin American

PONY Caribbean Zone Baseball Tournament in Gurabo, Puerto Rico.

The tournament, which is hosted by PONY Baseball Inc., will cater to young men from 15-16 years old. Team Bahamas, which placed third at last year's championships, departs New Providence on Monday, July 6 at 9:00 p.m. on American Eagle, for the tournament which will run through Sunday, July 12. The participating countries are Aruba, The Bahamas, Curacao, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

Named to represent The Bahamas are: Alvin Rolle (Pitcher/Utility Player - Bimini Baseball League); Jeffery Woodside (Pitcher/Outfielder - JBLN); D'Andre Rigby (Pitcher/Outfielder - JBLN); Ramon Grant (Middle Infielder - Grand Bahama Legacy League); Marcus Holbert (Pitcher/Infielder - Grand Bahama Legacy League); Marvin McQueen (Infielder - Grand Bahama Legacy League); Cameron Richardson (Infielder - Grand Bahama Legacy League); Byron Ferguson (Pitcher/Outfielder - JBLN); Crachad Laing (Pitcher/Catcher/First Base - JBLN); Chad Burrows (Infielder - JBLN); David Sweeting (Pitcher/Outfielder - JBLN); Theodore Sweeting Jr. (Catcher/Pitcher/Third Base - JBLN); Alex Tapia (Infielder - JBLN); Ashton Allens (Infielder/Pitcher - JBLN); Jervis 'Champ' Stuart (Outfielder/Pitcher - Grand Bahama Legacy League); and Andre Turnquest (Outfielder - Grand Bahama Legacy League). The coaches are: Loren Kemp (JBLN) and Marcian Curry (Grand Bahama Legacy League). The Team Manager is Patrick Knowles Sr. (Grand Bahama Legacy League).

Rigby, Ferguson, Laing, and David Sweeting were all members of the third place team last year, while Tapia and Allens were members of the 13-14 national team last year. Allens is headed to Trinity

High School in the United States in the Fall semester while Theodore Sweeting Jr., who was the Most Valuable Player of the 13-15 division in the 2009 BBF National Championships and also the Charles Johnson 'Most Outstanding Catcher', is headed to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina in the Fall. Jervis 'Champ' Stuart currently attends Christ School where he was a 2009 All-Conference selection. Outfielder Andre Turnquest was an All-Conference selection at Ruban Gap High School in Ruban Gap, Georgia.

The team is expected to be led on the field Stuart and Turnquest, and in the pitching department by David Sweeting, who had an outstanding pitching performance at the 2008 tournament, Marcus Holbert, who is tremendous young standout in the Grand Bahama senior league, and both Rigby and Ferguson.

Theodore Sweeting Jr. and Laing are expected to handle the catching duties, and Tapia and Allens, who both had outstanding seasons in their respective local leagues, are expected to lead by example in the infield. Both players also have international exposure, having played on the 13-14 national team last year.
