BASSETERRE, St. Kitts After weeks of exciting and intense training in six Caribbean Islands, the Digicel Kick Start Clinics drew to an end in St. Kitts & Nevis, with the Digicel Kick Start under-16 team wrapping up the clinics in style by hammering the St. Kitts & Nevis national under-17 team, 41.
It was a fitting end to two days of intense training under Barnes who was assisted by a number of local coaches.
Barnes said of the St. Kitts experience: "The Digicel Kick Start Clinics went very well in St. Kitts I saw the same amount of passion in the boys that I saw last year. We had great support from the Minister of Sports and the Deputy Prime Minister, as well as a host of former St. Kitts national players. The attention to detail, passion and interest in football in St. Kitts is as high as it is anywhere else."
Commenting on the overall success of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics, Barnes said: "It went very well in the six countries we visited. I saw a lot of talented young players who showed great potential to become professional footballers. I hope that the eight young players I select to travel to Sunderland will use the opportunity to learn as much as possible from the coaches in Sunderland's Academy of Light. This is a crucial time in the life of an under-16 footballer, as the next step up for them is to qualify to play at under-20 level."
Digicel Kick Start Clinics Head Coach, John Barnes, is set to announce the eight talented young footballers who will travel to Sunderland AFC for one week's training at the club's Academy of Light.
