    Eudeva, Sweet Island Gal win GB titles

    After its most recent victory at the 42nd Annual Long Island Regatta during the Labour Day holiday weekend, it was two straight in the 'C' Class for the 'Sweet Island Gal' at the 16th Annual Grand Bahama Regatta held at Taino Beach in Freeport, Grand Bahama this past weekend. The regatta was held in honor of Captain Christopher 'Fisher' Wallace, who has been the commodore of the Grand Bahama Regatta since its inception in 1993.

    The sloop racing started last Friday with the first series race in the 'B' and 'C' Classes, and the regatta was officially opened by the Honourable Zhivargo Laing, M.P. and Minister of State for Finance at 8:00 p.m. at the Junkanoo Beach Club. Racing continued on Saturday, commencing at 1:00 p.m. with the second series race in the 'B' Class followed by the second and third series races in the 'C' Class, wrapping up the day with the final series race in the 'B' Class. The regatta concluded on Sunday with seven children competing in the optimist class and ended with the presentations and closing ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening.

    Capturing the championship for the second year in a row, the 'Sweet Island Gal' skippered by Marty Bullard won all three of the series races and finished with a total of 24 points overall. In second place was 'Jacob's Ladder' with a total of 20 points, skippered by Dwayne Higgins, followed by 'H2O' with 18 points, skippered by Efford Kemp and a new boat out of Andros, 'Lady Christina' finished in forth with 11 points overall.

    The 'B' Class Champion was the 'Eudeva' skippered by Sheldon Gibson, finishing with 13 points overall. It was followed by 'Heathcliff' skippered by Marty Bullard in second, with 11 points overall. In third place was 'Ansbacher Queen' skippered by 'King' Eric Gibson followed by 'Cobra' skippered by Dwayne Higgins and 'Passion' skippered by Reuben Knowles respectively.

    Next up on the regatta calendar is Morgan's Bluff, Andros, from July 10–12.
