Whilst listening to Dr. Paul Masters President of The University of Metaphysics on the internet, as he conducted his weekly service last Sunday from The University Church in Las Vegas; he reminded me of a book which I read many years ago titled 'Practicing the Presence' written by Brother Lawrence.
Brother Lawrence was a Monk who decided, that whatever task he was doing, he was doing it for the ultimate glory of God; thus he spent his days really enjoying what he did, whether it was washing dishes in the monastery kitchen, or working in the garden, he dedicated every task to God, as he continually prayed throughout the day. He never lost sight of the fact, that wherever he was and whatever he was doing, God was there, as indeed he always is in our lives too. In other words, his life became one continual prayer, which is the way it should be, as far as I'm concerned.
Some people feel, that if they pray each morning upon awakening, and then again each night before they go to sleep, with perhaps a few extra prayers thrown in at church on Sunday, it's O.K. Well, let me put it this way. It's obviously far better to pray each morning and evening, and again at church on Sundays, than not to pray at all, thus apparently completely forgetting God. However, prayer really should be a continual process, as we repeatedly acknowledge the very presence of God in our daily lives, and in all of our actions.
We all know, that God is Omnipresent, therefore He really is everywhere present at all times. So, whatever actions we're involved in He's right there, He's with us every step of the way, as we travel the never-ending road to success. So, let's keep on acknowledging this indisputable FACT, every moment of the day and night. This then is 'Practicing the Presence'.
To 'Practice the presence' as did Brother Lawrence religiously, be sure to commence the day with a period of quiet meditation. This will get you in the right frame of mind, where you fully recognize, and indeed thankfully acknowledge the very Presence of God in your life, and all of your affairs. Then, periodically throughout the day and night, simply center yourself in this awesome presence, bring yourself mentally back to your 'Source'.
Don't forget to say grace before all of your meals and snacks, thus acknowledging the fact, that God is your provider, and that as He is your 'Source' for literally everything, you feel absolutely secure that He will continue to supply your every need, for which you give thanks. Yes indeed, we all need to 'Practice the presence' each and every day of pour our lives.
