The victim mentality

D. Paul Reilly, For The Guardian

At the time of writing this particular article, The Bahamas is hosting the heads of government of The Caribbean conference. Last night on television, I watched a news conference with the Prime Minister of Haiti Jacques-Edouard Alexis. He was talking about the fact, that his country Haiti was being used as a Drug Transshipment Center between South America and North America. He stated, that Haiti neither produced drugs, nor did Haitians for the most part use drugs. He further stated, that his country needed assistance in combating the drug trade, as his country was an innocent 'Victim'. What utter rubbish!

Now, incidentally, I've also heard many Bahamians, who obviously wish to live with their heads permanently buried in the sand, so to speak, with exactly the same sentiments on various talk shows on both radio and television, over the years. These disillusioned people, also talk at great length about the extensive use of the islands of The Bahamas for transshipment of drugs from South to North America.

Every time I hear these misguided people talk, I shake my head in disbelief as they too are desperately trying to blame someone else, to find a convenient 'Scapegoat', so to speak, upon which to blame the fact ,that there are dishonest and corrupt people throughout The Bahamas who facilitate the shipment of drugs through the country, and in so doing actually earn vast sums of illicit cash in the process.

No one, but no one can make anyone in any country cooperate with the Drug Barons, the Drug Kingpins to facilitate the transshipment of drugs. Obviously, someone makes a decision that they wish to become involved in, and make money out of drugs. My Friend, isn't it about time, that we ALL own up to The TRUTH, and thus totally get rid of once and for all, the 'Victim Mentality'? Yes indeed it is!

Far too many people spread throughout this great big world of ours, are alas operating their lives in 'Victim Mode'. In other words, they're constantly looking for excuses upon which to blame their failures and wrongdoings. You know the kind of people I'm talking about who say the following for example. "I was born in The Ghetto, so I'm a 'Victim of Circumstances', thus I'll never get out of The Ghetto, as you simply can't beat 'The System'". Once again, what Utter Rubbish! There are too many actual examples of people who were born in The Ghetto, who today are indeed extremely successful and financially secure....end of story!

My Friend, you can only be a 'Victim' if you allow yourself to be, for it's like everything else in life, it's an Attitude, an Attitude of Failure. Please My Friend, will you immediately shed the 'Victim Mode' and instead put on the 'Victor Mode' of thinking and behaving, and believe you me, you'll make it. Let's once and for all, stop blaming others for our obvious mistakes and incorrect behavior.

THINK ABOUT IT!
