If you can't get out to the fitness, well, The Nassau Guardian and fitness instructor Natasha Brown have teamed up to bring the fitness to you, through a new Monday weekly column called NatBros' Fit Tips.
Brown, who is excited about bringing fitness tips to you through the newspaper has connected with many people men, women senior citizens, physically challenged and children, and hopes to continue to foster that connection through her column which will help to provide all Bahamians with the most relevant, informative and useful tips and programs to better ensure that they can reach their physical and health goals.
"Because we are bombarded with so many different opinions from so many experts in the health and wellness field on ways to take our fitness to the next level or ways to improve cardiovascularly, what to eat and what not to eat, by reading this column, our brothers and sisters will learn new techniques to improve upon their daily routine and lifestyle," said Brown.
"This is a process and a huge commitment and I am definitely committing myself to providing the Bahamian public of all ages, [through The Nassau Guardian] with the ammunition to fight."
Brown says there are seven components of wellness and notes that many people have only tapped into at least two, and that through her column she will be able to assist with tapping into the others with simple guidelines and transitions.
Through her column she will demonstrate and outline basic movements with correct techniques and challenge the advanced fitness enthusiast on how to master more advanced exercises. Her column will also seek to provide routines, training, motivational and spiritual tips to enhance student athletes, senior citizens, physically challenged, disabled as well as elite athletes. And she reminds us all that the secret to health lies in daily routine.
Brown, 40, is the owner of NatBro's Fitness and Wellness soon to be renamed Kingdom Fitness and Wellness International. Since 1983, she has represented The Bahamas as a long, high and triple jumper in local and international competitions. Upon returning home in 2000, fitness was the only way for her to maintain her competitiveness and explosiveness for track. She decided to choose a sport similar to that of jumping which was fitness. To her surprise she became the national fitness champion for 2002-2003, and the first and only gold medalist in the tall class fitness category of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships in 2002. She is also the second Bahamian but the first Bahamian female to have received their professional status in the sport. She also lectures at The College of The Bahamas in the School of Education Department.
So Brown's ready to challenge you. Catch her first column in next week Monday's Lifestyles edition of The Nassau Guardian.
