Sailing into the sunset

By Chakara Bennett, Guardian Summer Intern

Envision this. The sun is sinking into the ocean like a giant medallion into an endless body of liquid gold and the sky is a plethora of waning and waxing hues. The seagulls are gliding delicately on the gentle sea breeze that rises and falls as rhythmically as your beating heart, and you are sitting calmly in idle fascination allowing the serenity to engulf you as you are rocked gently to the rippling of the sea's lullaby, and your love is holding you in a warm embrace...

Well, if this imagery is enough to excite you then you should be excited to know that this dream is not just an illusion. Seahorse Sailing Adventures can provide you with just such an experience, and can be the perfect date night that you are after to impress your significant other.

The company, established in 1999 by Dr. Nigel Lewis, specializes in organizing daily boat trips and offers two types — the first being the "Daytrip" which includes three-and-a-half hours of sailing and snorkelling which can be arranged for any day of the week.

The 'Sunset Cruise trips are held only on Wednesdays and Sundays from 6-8 p.m. There is no snorkelling but the fact that you can view the calming beauty of the sun setting and enjoy a tantalizing dinner compensates for the loss.

Seahorse also boasts of having the largest catamaran fleet in the country which makes up a total of three boats.

"Going out in the boat is like leaving all your troubles behind," said Beverley Rolle, an employee with the company. "I view these tranquil trips as a means of escape and abandon. It's the perfect form of entertainment for the stressed soul."

Seahorse Sailing Adventures' boat trips are excellent not only for tourists and corporate company gatherings but also for anyone who loves nature or aquatic life. In fact, to encourage local interest in the trips, a special discount is offered to residents.

"Kids will love it too," says Rolle. "My nephew went on one of the catamaran trips and his expression was that being on the boat was better than Disney World. I believe kids just like the hands on experience they get with the trip."

She further suggests that the experience is so magnificent because they are able to just see the sea life up close and it becomes more real than what they see on television, in magazines or in an aquarium. If their parents allow they can even swim with the fish which makes the experience that much more thrilling.

Seahorse Sailing Adventures also privately caters and rents their catamarans to locals or tourists who wish to stage special events such as weddings, dinner parties, anniversaries, etc. in a breathlessly exotic and unforgettable environment.

In the end when all is said and done, and you still wish to experience the quiet and ethereal beauty that is only available in the solitude and simplicity of the family islands, or wish to entertain your kids or special guests in a natural aquatic atmosphere, then Seahorse Sailing Adventures is definitely for you.
