A taste of the bishop's love potion
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
Valentine's Day may be history but for the persons who attended the Commonwealth Mission Baptist Church's EROS event the memory of the evening still lingers. For married people and single persons the night was magical and breathtaking but what stood out for most people was the "Bishop's Love Potion."
Resentment & revenge ruins people
By D. Paul Reilly:
There are unfortunately a whole lot of people who are harboring resentment against others, whom they perceive have done them wrong in the past. Perhaps it was a Parent whom we feel did not bring us up in the right way, or who was just not there for us when we really needed their support. Maybe we're among the millions of divorced people in the world, who resent the fact, that the person whom we really loved, upped and left us all alone once again.

Compassion with compromise - Part 2
By REV. Emmette WEIR ~ For The Guardian:
We come now to examine that aspect of this document which has proved most thought provoking and attracted most attention its teaching on marriage and other monogamous relationships. It is that position of the church which has been most highly publicized, especially in the secular media of mass communication. As such, it merits careful exposition, based on attention to detail, bearing in mind the principles expounded above. In this regard, it is extremely important to note that this section begins with a strong affirmation of the traditional teaching of the Church on marriage.

Bad things happen to good and bad people
BY Rev. Samuel M. Boodle:
Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those 18 who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." Luke 13:2-5.

Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8.
Compassion without compromise Human sexuality gift and trust
By Rev. Emmette Weir ~ For The Guardian:
There can be no doubt that all matters pertaining to sexual morality are of major significance in contemporary Christianity. Indeed, a number of events, in recent years, have conspired to place these issues "at the very top of the agenda" when it comes to moral teaching of the church in the world today. These include the ordination of an "openly gay" bishop, reports of the sexual abuse of children by the clergy, the so-called "juicy" sex scandals involving, in some cases, persons holding high office in the church, and of course the growing gay/lesbian movement.
The way to feel good
By D. Paul Reilly:
I wonder if I were to ask a whole lot of people the following question 'What is it that makes you feel good?', what kinds of answers I'd get. My guess is, that they'd be varied, depending on whom I asked the question of. Some would no doubt say, that on Friday evening when they get paid at work, and then proceed with a group of co-workers to the local 'Watering Hole' for what is erroneously called 'Happy Hour'; that as they imbibe their favorite alcoholic beverage and laugh and joke with their colleagues into the night, they feel good. Of course, my immediate question would inevitably be, I wonder how good those people will feel the next morning as they nurse a very bad hangover.
Cat Island Anglicans and Catholics come together
By STAFF WRITER ~ The Nassau Guardian:
The faithful Anglicans and Catholics on Cat Island were reminded that their Lenten acts of devotion should be focused on getting God's attention and not man's during a sermon by Father Andrew Burrows as the denominations came together to mark the start of the solemn Lenten season.
Two shepherds leading one flock
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
As Pastor F. Ed Allen closed the door on 30 years of pastoral ministry at the Abundant Life Bible Church, a church he founded in 1979, a new door to a brighter future has opened for two younger men. Cranston Knowles and Gil Maycock have been installed as co-pastors of the church. They officially took the helm on January 31.
God wants you under His grace
By Rev. Samuel M. Boodle:
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." Matt. 23:37.
Along life's road
By Rev. Ruby Ann Darling:
The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Isaiah 2:11.
Coming together in spiritual unity
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
The season of Lent is officially here and for many people it may seem like a marathon of solitary praying, fasting and penance but for some denominations it is also about togetherness and creating a sense of spiritual unity that has been lost over the years of divided worship.
Prejudices determine what we hear
By D. Paul Reilly:
Let me be honest with you my valued readers here today, I watch Fox Television quite a bit, I particularly like tuning in to my namesake Bill O'Reilly on 'The O'Reilly Factor', and 'The Glen Beck Show' both of which I do indeed find to be 'Fair & Balanced' as they say. Now, I have found that liberal-minded people, people who support the Presidency of Barack Obama and The Democratic Party in The U.S. are constantly speaking out against, what they refer to as the biased far-right reporting of The Fox Channel.
A passion for helping people find Christ
By Thea Rutherford ~ Guardian National Correspondent ~ thea@nasguard.com:
For Pastor Paul Scavella, a basketball court and a ping pong table did much more than provide recreation during his childhood. These were just some of the tools by which the young man learned that his father, retired Pastor Neville Scavella, really cared.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most high, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. Psalm 91: 9 &10.
Trust Jesus to bring you safely through
By Rev. Samuel Boodle:
As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about His departure, which He was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to Him, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." He did not know what he was saying. While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. Luke 9:29-31, 33-34.
Religious leaders working to keep the love alive
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
Valentine's Day is three days away and people are probably already finding unique ways to express their feelings to their loved ones. The day of love this year falls on a Sunday a day most people spend in the Lord's house worshiping God, and many religious leaders say that Valentine's Day on a Sunday is a delightful opportunity for couples to do more than just celebrate a commercialized day of love.
Spreading a little love to the less fortunate

Not listening leads to violence
By D. Paul Reilly:
There's no doubt about it, a lack of good communication skills leads to a whole lot of major problems in a person's life. In my Broaden Your Horizons seminar, module #8 is dedicated entirely to communication. Now, the very first point which I make relative to communication, is that it's a two-way street. In other words, for effective communication to take place there must be a Transmitter and a Receiver; that is the person who is expressing himself or herself, and the person who is listening to what is being expressed. Now, the link between Transmitter and Receiver MUST be complete in order for effective communication to take place.
Abundant Life Bible Church senior pastor hangs up his tools
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
A good workman knows when to hang up his tools. After 30 years of pastoral ministry F. Edward Allen, senior pastor at Abundant Life Bible Church on Abundant Life Road is retiring because he feels he's fulfilled in his work and knows that age will not permit him to carry on much longer.
Proceed with extreme caution
By Shavaughn Moss ~ Lifestyles Editor ~ shavaughn@nasguard.com:
The proposed Sexual Offences Bill no longer makes headline news, and could die with the prorogation of Parliament but it is still being talked about in the community and on the minds of many, as is evident with the Bahamas Turks and Caicos Islands Conference of the Methodist Church (MCCA) finally releasing a statement, urging the powers that be to proceed with "extreme caution."
When did you last try kindness?
By Pastor Leonard Johnson ~ For The Guardian:
The last thing one is inclined to render is kindness, especially to one or to a system that has been just the opposite harsh, exacting and unfair. Not to mention if one has been wounded and greatly inconvenienced willfully by another. Forgiveness in the aforementioned poses a challenge for even seasoned Christians, much less for a non-professing believer of God.
Jesus uses us even though we are not perfect
By Rev. Samuel Boodle:
When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch."
