Fuses in place implosion imminent By D. Paul Reilly, For The Guardian
Webster's New World Dictionary defines the verb implode as to cause to burst inwards. Implosion is of course the noun. I'm quite sure, that just about everyone has witnessed at least one implosion if not by actually being present at a building demolition, certainly we've all seen them on television. One of the last ones I saw was of a huge hotel in Las Vegas, which was imploded so that a brand new multi-million dollar resort and casino could be constructed, on the site of the old building. There are companies who specialize in imploding buildings. Sticks of dynamite are placed very specifically at strategic points in the building. When all of the fuses are in place, a button is pushed which ignites the dynamite fuses, and the huge structure falls inward ending up as a huge heap of rubble. In The Bahamas where I presently reside, I honestly believe, that the country is in the process of imploding. The "fuses" are in place and a mighty implosion is imminent, which will cause the country to self-destruct. The important question surely is, can anyone stop this terrible implosion from taking place, which is guaranteed to destroy the country from within? The answer is quite definitely a resounding yes. However, this should be treated as a most urgent matter, thus those who have placed all of the deadly and explosive "fuses" in place, need to immediately set about the task of removing them, so that the country does not suffer a mighty implosion. Now, if those who put the "fuses" in place don't admit to the fact and commence the process of withdrawing them, we're all in deep trouble. We must all face up to the fact, that those who were in power in the late 60s and early 70s, began the process of placing the deadly "fuses" of corruption, drug-dealing, lack of discipline across the board, of religious hypocrisy, sexual perversion, bad attitudes and unproductive work habits, of pure unadulterated greed, and institutionalized dishonesty throughout Bahamian society, from the top of the building of our nation to the bottom. Those who were responsible must admit to this fact, and together with all of the wonderful peoples of The Bahamas, set about the urgent task of removing all of the obvious "fuses". Take my word for it, if this is not done, the implosion will take place! For God's sake, let's all grow up and dedicate ourselves to rebuilding our beautiful nation, before it's too late and we self-destruct!
