    Anglicans gear up to celebrate

By STAFF WRITER ~ Nassau Guardian:

Anglicans will gather on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21 at 7 p.m., at Christ Church Cathedral, for a solemn pontifical evensong, sermon, procession and benediction, in anticipation of the Feast of the Nativity of St. John on Wednesday, June 24th.

St. John The Baptist is the patron saint of The Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

The Right Reverend Laish Zane Boyd, Sr., bishop of The Diocese of The Bahamas and The Turks & Caicos Islands will officiate and preach the sermon for this special service.

Music will be provided by the choir of the Parish of The Most Holy Trinity. Preston Ferguson will be the organist.

"According to Holy Scripture, St. John the Baptist was the kinsman of Jesus, and the son of the priest Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth. Scripture says that John was six months older than Jesus — Luke 1:36-37.

According to the tradition of the church, St. John The Baptist, the last of the Old Testament prophets, was born June 24th circa 3/2 BC. He was 30 years old when he began his mission to call the covenant people to a baptism (ritual purification) of repentance in order to prepare them for the coming of the Messiah and the promised "new covenant." — Jer 31:31-34.

As a result, there will be no services in any New Providence Anglican church on Sunday evening, and all church organizations are requested to attend the cathedral in full uniform.
