A suspect who allegedly fired a weapon at police during an attempted burglary, armed robbery and hostage situation in Bain Town is recovering in hospital, police reported yesterday.

Police shot the would-be robber in the stomach during the incident early Monday morning, around 2:15.

Chief Superintendent Glen Miller said the incident occurred on Rupert Dean Lane and Patton Street, where Central Detective Unit officers discovered two suspects holding the occupants of a home at gunpoint.

Miller reported that one of the male suspects opened fire at the police and when police returned fire, one of the suspects was shot. The other suspect attempted to escape but was detained by officers of the Canine Unit, detectives and other officers.

The two occupants of the home escaped the ordeal uninjured.

During a search of the home police recovered a number of items that the culprits allegedly placed in bags.

Both men are expected to be charged with burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping.

Police also reported that on Saturday night, around 10:30, four men in a Nissan Maxima were arrested after police allegedly found two weapons in the car.

Miller reported that the men were allegedly at a Texaco Service Station on Old Trail and Robinson Roads when one of the occupants of the car threatened someone and pulled out a weapon. Police were called to the scene.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly discovered a .22 pistol with five live rounds of ammunition along with a shotgun with six live rounds. The weapons were confiscated and the men were taken into custody.
