Radio legend Jeff Scavella dead at 60 By ROGAN M. SMITH, Guardian Senior Reporter, rogan@nasguard.com
Jeff Scavella, the man who worked his way up from a trainee at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas to become one of the most recognized voices of his generation, has passed away. He was 60. Jeff got his start as a trainee announcer for 1540 in the late 1960s. He eventually worked his way up to programming manager at ZNS in the 1980s. Most people remember him from his popular show, "You asked for it." He was a popular talent on the evening shift and most recently worked at Love 97 radio. It was his dynamic personality and effortless on air demeanor that helped increase the popularity of the station. Star 106.5FM Programing Director Tony Williams remembered his fallen colleague, whom he said "gave him his first big break" during his days at ZNS. "Jeff was the first person to give me a break to go on air as an announcer. He also trained me in production and he was a really cool person to work with. He had a lot of advice to give to you," he said. "When I heard that he passed I was really surprised and saddened by it. I want to take this opportunity to send condolences to his family and let them know that we are thinking of them." The entire Guardian-Star news team sends its condolences to Jeff's family. |
