      Ten people on gambling charges

By Artesia Davis ~ Guardian Senior Reporter ~ artesia@nasguard.com:

Ten people pleaded not guilty to illegal gambling charges when they appeared before Magistrate Derence Rolle yesterday.

Tenisha Rolle, 22, of Elizabeth Estates, denied that she allowed Sweetness Web Shop on Thompson Boulevard to be used to promote and organize a lottery on June 26. Tonique Williams Darling Drive resident Patrick Knowles, 43, denied that he was found in a place where a lottery was taking place.

Magistrate Rolle issued an arrest warrant for the third defendant Ntari Wright, 32, of Yorkshire Street, who did not show up for his arraignment.

Rolle and Knowles were allowed to remain on police bail and their trial has been scheduled for August 24.

Eight people who were arrested at Percy's Web Cafe on Pitt Road were among those who pleaded not guilty. Latishka Campbell, of Soldier Road, and Louis Augustin, Princess Riley and Leanora Taylor, of Kemp Road, denied that they permitted the premises to be used to promote a lottery.

Jamal Rolle, of Meadow Boulevard; Jacinta Johnson, of Step Street, Fox Hill; Pamela Johnson, of Sutton Street, and Sharanda Johnson, of Water Street, denied that they were found in a place where a lottery was taking place.

Magistrate Rolle extended their police bail and ordered them to return to court on August 19.
