Casino worker pleads not guilty By ROGAN M. SMITH, Guardian Senior Reporter
An Isle of Capri Casino worker pleaded not guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm in a Grand Bahama court Thursday. Wynton Augustus Isaacs, 44, of Seagull Close, Seahorse Village, an executive host at the Isle of Capri Casino, was arraigned in magistrate's court. Isaacs was arrested at the Grand Bahama International Airport Wednesday afternoon after officers allegedly found a concealed weapon inside his travel bag. Isaacs was about to board a flight to New Providence. Officers recovered a silver and black .9mm Parabellum semi-automatic pistol and 13 live .9mm bullets. It is alleged that Isaacs did not have a valid firearm certificate. Magistrate Debbye Ferguson adjourned the case to November 5 at 10 a.m. and set bail at $1,500 for the firearm charge and $1,500 for the ammunition charge. Attorney K. Brian Hanna is representing Isaacs. In other court news: A 26-year-old man pleaded guilty to an ammunition possession charge Thursday in a Grand Bahama court, but the magistrate later changed that plea to not guilty after hearing the defendant's explanation. Patrick Mackey appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes. It is alleged that officers from the Grand Bahama Drug Enforcement Unit and Eastern Division found a live .45 round of ammunition in Mackey's bedroom dresser when they searched his Tradewinds apartment on Adventurers Way, Wednesday afternoon. The case was adjourned to November 6 and bail was set at $500. * Two female drivers in separate cars were badly injured after they collided on a Grand Bahama highway. The accident occurred Wednesday afternoon on Queen's Highway and Oak Street. Angela Hackman of Hawaii Avenue, and Anna Forbes of Russell Town, Eight Mile Rock were treated at the Rand Memorial Hospital. They were later discharged. |
