Two brothers shot, one killed
By KEVA LIGHTBOURNE ~ Guardian Senior Reporter ~ kdl@nasguard.com:
A family is left searching for answers after two brothers were shot at a night spot early Saturday, resulting in the death of one of them.
Matthew Armbrister, 23, was shot to death in Dominique's Restaurant, Boyd Road, police said. His death pushed the country's murder count for 2009 to 33.
His brother, Marvin Armbrister, 24, was fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
According to police, the incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. There was reportedly an altercation involving the brothers and another man in the club when shots were fired and the brothers shot.
Narado Knowles, a cousin of the Armbristers, said the brothers were very close. He said they frequently visited the club, but this marked the first time that things took such a tragic turn.
Reportedly, Matthew Armbrister was in the midst of organizing a christening service for his six-month-old daughter.
Muriel Humes, grandmother of the deceased, described him as a "nice child," somehow who never got into problems.
She said Matthew was her right-hand man, especially on Sundays when he visited her and helped her complete chores around her home. She said he always did what needed to be done and he will be missed greatly.
"I am very upset and right now the tears are rolling down," Humes said. "His life was taken for nothing...I feel bad now, but I guess one day it will be all right."
She said the family is having a hard time dealing with the situation. She reminded that while only one brother died, the other was fighting for his life.
"We don't even know if the next one is going to live because he is in the Intensive Care Unit. We are just praying and trusting the Lord for everything, hoping everything would be all right."
The Nassau Guardian was unable to speak with the men's mother, who was reportedly visiting Marvin Armbrister in hospital.
Family members are calling on the police to bring speedy closure to this case.
Up to press time last night, The Guardian was unable to confirm whether the police had anyone in custody in relation to the shooting.
