    Planting seeds for financial freedom

It's summer and time for a select number of Bahamian students to head back to class.

Camp Millionaire is ramping up for its second year, focused on schooling kids in the fine art of finance management. Towards that end its camp counselors use a slew of budgeting and investment techniques

guaranteed to empower any would-be CEO, says owner Keshelle Kerr, Guardian Business's "Money & Kids" columnist.

Still, it may be a while before any of the students use those financial skills. Most don't yet have driver's licenses — heck, most haven't even entered high school.

"There is no better time than when they are young to learn basic money management skills," said Kerr in an earlier interview. "If we don't know how to manage money at a young age we are probably not going to be able to when we get older and only contribute to a bad economy."

Starting in July, with a session for teens as well as those 9 to 12, Camp Millionaire is no everyday summer camp. It draws on learning tools involving elements of game playing, activities and prizes in order to

    facilitate learning.

"Yes, the goal is to increase financial literacy in kids and teens, but we try to do it in a fun way," Kerr said.
